SEPT 10: Ideal Stars for Custer Movie
You’ve read about these historical figures on Custer365, now see the actors our crack team of talent scouts has assembled to play them on the big screen!
Starting with George Armstrong Custer, we have Academy Award nominee Austin Butler. He played Elvis Presley to a “T” in director Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 hit, “Elvis,” so portraying Custer should be no problem-o.
For Commanding General of the Army William T. Sherman, you need an actor of stature and, frankly, a tall guy. Tim Robbins meets the requirement, having starred in “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Mystic River” and “The Player.” While Sherman stood 5’11” (U.S. Grant, by comparison was only 5’ 8”), Robbins stretches the tape out to 6’ 5”. (He’s center on the undefeated Custer365 basketball team, by the way.)
“Little Phil” Sheridan was known for his short stature, fiery temper, aggressive and bold battlefield tactics, and incredible stamina. Who better to portray him than the actor that portrayed another aggressive, persistent military leader, Napoleon – Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix.
Actress Emmy Rossum, known best for her role as Fiona Gallagher, the big sister that kept it all together on Showtime’s “Shameless,” gets our nod as Libbie Custer. Libbie maintained a life-long love affair with George Custer, even after his demise at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Rossum is also a singer-songwriter, so maybe she can deliver a soft, heartfelt ballad as well.
Tom Custer will be portrayed by Ty Simpkins, who will have some acting to do to catch up to Tom, who was awarded not one, but two Medals of Honor during the Civil War for bravery. Simpkins has been seen in “Jurassic World, “Insidious: The Red Door” and “Iron Man 3”, so he has the chops and can figure it out.
Finally, isn’t it time George Clooney portrayed an American president? Who better than the 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant.
