SEPT 30: He’s Back

On Sept. 30, 1868, George Armstrong Custer is reinstated to command the 7th U.S. Cavalry after being suspended for one year following a court-martial conviction. He had been charged with leaving his command in Kansas without authorization in July 1867 to visit his wife, Libbie, at Fort Riley.
